Recently, we saw some Amazon Echo Spot users experience display flickering issues on their devices. Some users have tried some general solutions on the web but nothing seems worked for them.

There are a few causes why the screen keeps flickering on Amazon Echo Spot. These are;

  1. Power supply –  if the power cable you use for your Echo spot cannot power up the device consistently, then the Echo spot will fail to keep the screen without flickering
  2. Software issues such as bugs and glitches in the Echo spot’s firmware can lead to a poor hardware optimization
  3. Brightness levels – In extreme (high) brightness levels, users have reported that they experience the display flickering issue more frequently. However, the reason behind this also leads to a poor power supply to the device

There can be only one or maybe all three reasons that cause your Echo spot screen to flicker.

But you don’t have to be worried about it because, in this guide, we will show you the actual working solutions to fix the screen flickering issue on your Amazon Echo spot. So keep reading…

How to fix the Amazon Echo Spot display flickering issue

fix the Amazon Echo Spot display flickering

Since the three main reasons why the display flickers on most Amazon Echo Spot devices are power supply, software, and brightness level, this guide will cover all working solutions to fix those causes.

You don’t have to follow every solution here. Test your Echo Spot after doing each fix and if the problem gets fixed, you can stop troubleshooting from there.

Let’s start with restarting the device.

Fix 01 – Restart the device

Restart Alexa

The easiest way to get rid of temporary glitches is to restart your Echo Spot. By restarting, the software of the device soft reset, and all the temporary glitches will resolve once you do.

To restart it, follow these steps.

  1. Open the Alexa app on your smartphone
  2. Go to devices
  3. Tap on the Echo Spot
  4. Scroll down and tap on the restart option to restart the device

Once it is restarted, check if the screen flickering issue is fixed.

Fix 02 – Check the power cable

connect power source

Have you seen LED lights that flicker when not providing enough power to them?

This is the same for your Echo Spot device. You may be using the power cable that comes with your device too. However, even the original cable will fail to give enough power to the device (most of the time, this happens when using the cable for a long time).

Therefore, try to plug a different cable into your Echo spot. you can use power cables that come with your other Alexa devices for this.

If the display flickering issue got fixed after you changed the cable, then all you have to do is get a new cable for your Echo Spot.

Fix 03 – Lower the brightness level

High brightness levels cause a lot of power, and if the wall socket/power cable fails to give enough power to the device, the screen will start to flicker/stutter.

Try lowering the brightness level. This is not definitely a solution. But you can verify if that is the problem. If the flickering stops once you reduce the brightness, then you should check the power source (wall socket).

Move the device to another area and plug it into a different power source and see if the display flickering goes away.

Fix 04 – Turn off the screen at night/when not in use

When you use the device during the day (24 hours), the screen will keep turning on. This can sometimes lead to a temporary hardware issue (problems with the device’s capacitors).

So what you can do is dim the screen when you go to sleep, or when the device is not in use. This can be simply done by giving your Alexa a command like, “Alexa, turn off the display of the Echo spot”

You will have to turn the screen on manually after every time you turn the screen off/dim. But you can get around this by creating a routine to turn the screen off every night.

Fix 05 – Keep the device turned off for a while

To fix the capacitor load of your Echo Spot that can cause screen flickering, you can turn off the device for a while.

Just plug off the device from the power source. And wait for about 30 minutes or 1 hour. Then, plug the power cable back into the device and turn it on.

If this trick fixed the issue, you won’t see any flicker of the screen for a long time like a few weeks. However, it may re-appear after that and you will have to do the same again.

But you can take the device to the nearest Amazon service center (or ship the device to the nearest outlet) and let them take a look at the device and fix if there is any hardware issue causing the screen to flicker.

Fix 06 – Factory data reset and update the firmware

Reset the reminder

The last solution you can do is the factory data reset. Not only that. You have to update the device’s firmware to increase the chances of resolving the issue.

Also, updating the device software is a good practice to keep the device performance at a consistent rate.

To do the factory data reset, follow these steps;

  1. Open the Alexa app
  2. Tap on devices
  3. Select your Echo Spot
  4. Scroll down and tap on Factory data reset

It will take a few minutes to complete the reset. You will have to add the device again to your Alexa account. Then, follow these steps to update the device software.

  1. Swipe down the screen of your Echo Spot until you see the Settings icon (a gear icon)
  2. Tap on the Settings icon
  3. Scroll the list until you find the “Device options”
  4. Scroll a bit down again and see if there is the “Check for software updates” option
  5. Now tap on it

Now you will see the device checks for updates and download them. Once downloaded it will automatically install the update and then your problem should be fixed.
